The Non è solo un gioco ma Ricordiamoci di Giocare! project is a sports-educational initiative promoted by Polisportiva Malaspina, in collaboration with the Cooperativa Sociale Porta Aperta Onlus and Fundacja Pedra, and supported by Fondazione di Sardegna. The project aims to combat discrimination and promote social inclusion using sports as an educational tool. Through Education Through Sport, the initiative seeks to raise awareness among young athletes and their audience about the importance of words and behaviors in the sports context, fostering a more positive, respectful, and inclusive environment.
At the heart of this initiative is the idea of addressing dynamics that can cause discomfort among young athletes by tackling sensitive topics such as social discrimination, body-shaming, and the pressure of excessive expectations. The project not only engages young athletes but also involves their parents and spectators, aiming to create widespread awareness that contributes to building a healthier and more welcoming sports environment for all.
Project Objectives
– Combat discrimination and promote inclusion through sports education
– Raise awareness among young athletes, parents, and spectators about the impact of language and behaviors in the sports context
– Create a more positive, respectful, and inclusive environment in youth sports
Project Activities
Activity 1 – The Weight of Words: In June, 50 children (aged 5 to 13) participated in sports and play activities where they reflected on the impact of words in sports and daily life. The activity helped identify constructive and destructive language, highlighting how words influence their well-being and experience in sports.
Activity 2 – Old Glory Tournament: A mixed 5-a-side football tournament brought together parents, relatives, friends, and regular fans. Through this activity, participants experienced firsthand how audience attitudes affect players on the field, shifting roles between spectators and athletes to foster greater empathy.
Activity 3 – Let’s Remember to Play: The final activity, scheduled for December, will provide an opportunity to assess the project’s impact and reflect on the lessons learned. Young athletes, parents, and spectators will share their experiences, and the partnership will evaluate the progress made, improve educational approaches, and reinforce its commitment to inclusion and respect in sports. The goal is to create a replicable model that can positively influence youth sports and local communities.
